Question: Dumb question on wine... cabernet = cabernet sauvignon ?

I am not a wine drinker at all. I try to buy a bottle of wine to a friend as a gift. i heard he likes caymus Cabernet. I looked online and find caymus Cabernet Sauvignon. Are they the same ? Sorry for the dumb question...

Cabernet can be found in at least 3 different grape varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Severny. It depends what the winemaker produces in the winery. And for Caymus winery, they produce only Cab Sauv and Zinfandel. Thus, it is safe to say that Caymus Cabernet = Cabernet Sauvignon.

Yup cabernet = cabernet sauvignon (a red wine), and its not dumb question, until i started drinking wine and bartending I knew nothing about it either

Not sure if caymus is the winery. I don't know if you drink wine at all but you might want to go to some tasting rooms and try some. Often times with wine, you develop a taste for it. In the beginning you might only like desert wines. As you try different ones you can begin to appreciate them. Then you can enjoy a glass with your friend, smile.
