Can i re-cork unused wine?

Question: Can i re-cork unused wine?

(Posted by: flash04jv on 2009-12-30 14:02:33)

I am drinking some wine by myself today. I usually only drink it with friends or my girlfriend so it's always empty. But I have about half a bottle of wine I'm not going to drink right now. Can I just shove the cork back in the bottle and save it for later? Will it explode if I do this? Or has fermentation ended? Thanks for the answers!!! Will the cork come out if I put it back in the wine rack? Since the rack angles the bottle downwards?

Yea just keep it cool and shove the cork back into the bottle, it should last about half a day.

You can "re-cork " it. That's why they make the fashion like corks...so you can save the wine.

Absolutely. I find that pushing the top of the cork into the bottle is easier than trying to get the bottom back in. Too, if it's a white wine, put it in the fridge, if it is a red wine, store it at room temperature.

Of course - it will keep

Yep, you can ... turn the cork upside down and shove it almost all the way back in. You should definitely drink it within 48 hours, though ... past that, the quality starts to deteriorate and you'll notice a change in taste. If not, put it in the fridge and use it for cooking within the next week or so.

There is a vacuum device that let's you keep wine for as long as you like. They run $80-$90, though.

You can either flip the cork and reinsert it or use a special "T-cork ". However, the wine will start to deteriorate once it is opened, so don't keep it too long before drinking it. Fermentation is over, though.
