How do i open a bottle of wine that has a cork that won't budge?

Question: How do i open a bottle of wine that has a cork that won't budge?

I just bought some wine, and the cork isn't sticking out of the top of the bottle, so it is extremely hard to open. The wine opener is screwed all the way in, and it just won't budge. What else can we do to get it to come out?

Cut off the top of it, sure it wont look fancy anymore, but hey wine is wine right

Use the rounded end of a wooden spoon or other blunt object to push the cork into the bottle

Get a longer, better bottle opener. You may not be able to apply ample force with what you currently have to open the bottle.

This isn't good for entertaining, but... break the neck of the bottle. Use a heavy knife or a metal table corner and break it open. just hold the bottle low and don't get glass in your eye. Or you could push the cork into the bottle, but little pieces could get in the wine.

Twist the bottle and pull on the bottle opener simultaneously. Also, hot water might help the glass expand a little bit, making the cork easier to slide out of!

Put some lubricant on it

Just break the bottle open against something hard. make sure not to drink the glass though.

Push it into the bottle with a plastic/ wooden kitchen spoon.

Push the cork INTO the bottle. When you tilt the bottle, the cork will move out of the way as it stays on the surface inside the bottle.

Have you tried pushing it into the bottle?

It requires someone who has muscle. If you can't find someone stronger than yourself, try putting the bottle between your knees for extra strength and more leverage and pull as hard as you can on that cork screw.

You can turn a long wood screw into the cork and pull it out with pliers, or you can push the cork into the bottle if it's really stuck

You are not going to let a cork get in the way of a bottle of wine are you ?? Pull it out, or push it in. Get the wine out and drink it !!

Tilt the bottle under the tap and run hot water over the top of the neck, rotating the bottle so all sides get heated. Do this for 30-45 secs. The cork should more easily come out. This also works for sticky champagne corks too. BTW: this methods works nearly every time. It's far easier than the others mentioned. It's also much safer than many mentioned..

Try pulling it out with pliers u might be able to get more force behide it, but next time i would invest in a good wine key, they making open even old bottles even.

Electric wine openers are totally the way to go. The Oster 4207 off of Amazon for $15 has worked like a charm for me for over two years - and I can drink me so wine. Of course, that doesn't help you get into that bottle of wine you have NOW, does it? The openers that look like swiss army knives that you can pick up at a grocery store for about 3 bucks that grab the lip of the bottle on just one side is the second best, provided you've got a little strength to put behind it. And as a last resort you could always use a drill. :)

If you're not interested in keeping the bottle, take a lighter and try to burn the cork out. that or smash the top of the bottle (make sure you wear safety supplies [glasses, loose clothing, etc.] before doing this) on a counter so you can just get the wine out. but, if you don't want to do that, then just try to cut the cork out

A compressed air opener will work. The point goes into the bottle and the pressure forces the cork out. Short of that you should be able to twist the bottle and keep pulling harder...once it gets going you can get it. If it's a real cork and too dry it might break if the screw is too short then you would need to revert to either using a different opener or pushing it in. I would keep pushing it in as a last resort since you will get bits of cork in the wine that you would need to pick or filter out.

There is openers with like prongs and it goes on the side of the cork and you slowly twist the cork out. Im guessing you could buy it at a liquor store, grocery store or online.
