Cling film the top, it's about the only option you have. While the answers saying to use a wine saver are technically more correct they are no use to you for last nights bottle as you would have to go out and buy one first. Then again, if it's "last nights " bottle you are too late anyway

Your wine shop, or maybe a liquor store, should sell stoppers for champagne bottles.

It will actually keep better without a lid. Any lid will build pressure in the bottle and that will release the bubbles more than no lid. While it won't be as bubbly the next day, it will hold up pretty well. I had half a bottle a couple weeks ago and put it in the fridge overnight, it was fine the next afternoon and the flavor was better!

Found these suggestions for you: Storing Champagne, Opened: If you think opening champagne is difficult, try putting the cork back in and keeping it there! There are lots of tips, tricks and suggestions out there for corralling the bubbles. Most recommended is a special pressure-withstanding cap just for champagne bottles. You can do that, and/ or you can pump out the oxygen, pump in carbon dioxide, place a metal spoon in the neck of the bottle, etc. Or you can do nothing. Yes, a few years ago the University of California (Davis, I think) did a study on the best way to store open champagne. They tested every possibility and concluded that leaving the bottle open and upright in the refrigerator works as well as anything else. We tried it, agree, and have gratefully stored it that way ever since. greatpartyrecipes.com/ opening-champagne.html Champagne: To keep champagne bubbly after opening and serving the first glass, place a spoon handle, or a fork handle, whichever fits into neck of bottle and your champagne will remain bubbly even until the next morning to serve at breakfast. It Works! ww3.komotv.com/ global/ story.asp?s= 1454284 How long can I keep the Champagne once it is opened? To keep Champagne after it has been opened you can use a Champagne bottle stopper. This will keep the pressure in the Champagne. Even so, Champagne should not be left more than 24 hours after opening champagne-house.co.uk/ faq.php A bottle of champagne can be closed by using some cellophane wrap and a rubber band. Simply place the wrap over the bottle, and then secure it at the neck of the bottle using the rubber band. A cork should never be placed in a bottle of champagne because carbonation can build up and pop it out. To ease the carbonation buildup when closing with cellophane, you should also use a pint to poke a small whole in the wrap. This ensures a way for any build-up of carbonation to escape, and if you consume the leftover champagne the next day, you should still have some bubbles essortment.com/ food/ champagneuncork_sxql.htm

This came up with me about a year ago, someone told me to place a dessert spoon handle inside the bottle... and yes, I laughed at this idea but decided to try it out, the next day the champagne was still fresh and still had those bubbles
