Very smooth but I don't want to pay a lot of $$ for it. Maybe under 25.00 ??

If you like it smooth, you should try Syrah. Very smooth, not bitter. Some merlots can be very bold tasting until you let them breathe for hours. Syrah is pretty gentle and smooth from the beginning. Or if you want a smoother merlot, maybe look into a merlot/ syrah blend. My recommendation would be to open the bottle and let it sit for hours. Get a large open goblet glass and pour from really high, let that baby bubble and breathe. Swirl it, sip it slow, and then the NEXT day (cork it after at least 4 hours) it will taste much smoother. Try Robert Mondavi, Concha Y Toro, Columbia Crest, St. Francis, Whitehall Lane, Simi Sonomo County, it seems there are alot of good, smooth wines from California and Chile.

Californian Merlot or Australian is fairly smooth and comes in below$25
