I don't know - I felt that they didn't explain this very well on the episode... I'm a beer guy, not a wine guy, and I wanted a little more explanation about how they picked the wines, and which were the best choices and pairings that were made... I found a list of the wines on "Television Without Pity ", maybe you can research each one based on this info? Michael V.: 2006 Cuvaison pinot noir (paired with root beer-braised pork cheek with a truffle bun and vanilla/ cherry sauce) Ash: 2007 Sanford pinot noir (chilled pork tenderloin with cherry and corn salad) Eli: 2007 Terlato family pinot noir. (braised pork belly with carrot puree and raw celery and fennel) Kevin: 2006 Sokol Blosser Dundee Hills pinot noir. (pork leg pate with mushroom salad and pickled cherries) Mike I: 2005 Wairau River pinot noir. (pork shoulder stuffed with prosciutto, dates, and pine nuts and served over orange blossom yogurt) Bryan: Rochioli pinot noir. (braised pork spare rib served over parsnip puree with mostarda) Jen: 2005 Chanson Clos de Beze pinot noir. (pork belly braised in soy sauce with a salad made of tomatoes, black olives, apples, celery, and truffles) Laurine: 2005 Chanson Clos de Feves pinot noir. (pork butt rillettes on an arugula salad with a golden raisin and pearl onion chutney) Robin: Mischief and Mayhem pinot noir. (brined center cut pork chop stuffed with sweet potato-apple roulade and a sour cherry-coffee demiglace) As I said, I don't know which of these wines would be considered good choices and which ones not so good, but I think a big part of it would be how well they paired with each person's food (and of course how well they prepared it) - and I think from the episode it was (mostly) clear what the judges' opinions on that were. |
