Question: What does it mean when a wine is smooth,bold,or light?

I don't drink wine but i am interested in wines and would like to start drinking it. when you read about a wine and its say a wine is smooth, bold, or light are they referring to the alcohold taste, or the grape taste? i do not like the taste of alcohol that much. which wine would have the least alchohol taste? or does it depend on price?

Wine is far different from any other type of alcoholic beverage. What those people are talking about is how the wine tastes. It means nothing on the alcoholic taste. Most wines are anywhere from 12-16% alcohol. If you want to have a wine that does not have the alcoholic taste you will want to spend more money on a wine. (But that is not always true) There are types of wine that have more of a taste of alcohol. Those are typically red wines. A wine that is smooth does not have an alcoholic taste to it. there isnt a bite that the alcohol normally gives it. red wine Cabernet is a very bold wine meaning that there is a very intense flavor. Pinot noir is a lighter red wine compared to the cabernet. it has more of a fruit flavor. Merlot is more sour than pinot and is made to have with food. White wine Chardonnay falls under two types traditional and modern traditional is very woody like you are tasting part of an oak tree the modern is more fruity and sweet. All of those wines are American. There are many other types of wine that are made from across the world. I hope you have fun and learn a lot about wine. Personally I like Pinot Noirs over any other type of wines and my favorite is Cambria. It is about $25 for the bottle and is well worth it.
