Question: Anyone ever made lappish hag's love potion (blueberry wine)?
(Posted by: Mountains & Mayhem on 2010-03-08 22:14:42)
It seems very easy (just blueberries, sugar and water) and I was thinking of making some on my balcony this summer. I just was wondering if anyone has ever tried making it before, and what your experiences have been. For example: What does it taste like? Does the temperature and/ or amount of sunlight affect the taste? (and if so, how?) What's a good sugar to blueberry ratio? I live in an apartment, and although I have a balcony, it does not have as much sun as I would like. I was thinking maybe I could make it indoors directly in front of the window? I'm not sure if indoor/ outdoor position would make a difference. Any advice or insights you can offer would be awesome. Thanks! Its made with a lid on so I don't think bugs would be a problem??? I am not sure of your need to ferment this wine outside. I love the smell of fermenting beer, mead, and wines. If you wish to avoid the smell and do it outside there should be no harm. I think the sun may have a small effect in bleaching out some color and in raising the fermenting temperature of your wine. If you can just prop something up like a large cardboard bod or plywood this would help shade your wine. If think that you may find that some acids will help your wine. They will provide a better drinking experience while keeping air-borne microorganisms from spoiling it. search.yahoo.com/ search?p= wine%20acids I just was wondering if anyone has ever tried making it before, and what your experiences have been. No but I have made a few grape wines. From these popular recipes it appears that a good sugar:blueberry ratio is 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 favoring the fruit. But some have it just the opposite where the sugar ratio is higher. It is just something that you will need to work out for yourself by trail N error. Just part of the charm of being a winemaker. winemaking.jackkeller.net/ request108.asp |

Don't make it outdoors or you will have the whole neighborhood of flies and bugs wanting some too...I would think the sunlight might affect the outcome ?!?!...... and don't tell the neighbors... |
